The summer days of Florida are upon us, and it is toasty outside! There is no better way to beat the heat of the Florida heat than to head to the water park. There are 4 main water parks in Orlando which include Volcano Bay (Universal), Aquatica (SeaWorld), Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach (Disney World). There are also a multitude of smaller water parks located throughout the area if you are looking for cheaper options.
While Disney World has two waterparks, only one of them is usually open at a time. Currently, Typhoon Lagoon is open for business! We decided to check it out and see what all there is to do.
I want to apologize in advance for the lack of photos as my phone was inside a locker for a majority of our trip. I managed to get a few shots on my way out of the park, but unfortunately you will have to rely on my words for the rest of the water park.
We were very impressed with Typhoon Lagoon and I think you could easily spend a full day enjoying all the water park has to offer. We got there right after the park opened and stayed until the skies started getting very gloomy. We were there from around 10am until 4:30pm and there were still a few things we did not get done.
I would highly recommend purchasing a locker upon arrival to store any valuables in and stake claim to a few chairs for your party so you are able to soak up some rays whenever you are ready. The lounge chairs seemed to fill up very quick and when we returned from a few rides there were very slim pickings.
1) Castaway Creek Lazy River
A trip to a waterpark is not complete without a few laps on the lazy river. Grab a tube and lounge away! You can even use this lazy river as a means of transportation and hop in to get to your next destination. Castaway Creek is complete with a waterfall, numerous water shooters and lush scenery. You can get a great overview of the waterpark, cooldown and enjoy some relaxing time!
2) Crush ‘n’ Gusher
This was our favorite water ride at the park! This attraction has three separate slides (Coconut, Pineapple and Banana). We personally liked the Banana one the best, but they are all different and I would suggest trying them all if you have the time. This ride has tubes that fit two people. It is best if you have two people because you can do any of the slides. If you are riding by yourself, you will only be able to go on the Coconut slide. There were three of us so we switched around so we could all try the different slides.
3) Get a Rice Bowl from Leaning Palms
I was so impressed with the rice bowl from Leaning Palms. Leaning Palms is one of the quick service restaurants available at Typhoon Lagoon and this rice bowl was great! The plantains and pineapple salsa really made this rice bowl so delicious. There was plenty of chicken and the roasted corn and peppers were fantastic. My friend was actually the one that got the rice bowl and I really wished I had gotten one too. I will definitely be grabbing this dish next time!
4) Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool
It is hard to miss the surf pool as it is located in the middle of the park and the lazy river circles around it. And it is definitely an attraction that you should not miss! There are two options for waves: surfing waves and bobbing waves. Fair warning that the surfing waves are actually really powerful. I was impressed with how far the waves pushed me. It was really nice to be in the pool and the waves added a great excitement. I loved hearing the excited cheers each time a wave was produced.
5) Miss Adventure Falls
This ride features a four-person raft that you ride through a tropical paradise with artifacts collected from across the globe. This one my favorite ride that accommodated a larger group of people. You start off riding up a conveyor belt and get to experience all sorts of “Miss Adventure” as you surf through. We had so much fun on this ride and were able to get a good amount of water splashing too.
6) Grab a fresh Funnel Cake
I am a food-lover and I think food makes any trip better. I am also very impartial to funnel cakes and I think they are so delicious. The funnel cakes at Typhoon Lagoon are no exception. They were made fresh to order and dusted with a large helping of powdered sugar. You can also add some ice cream to the top for a cool treat too! Yummy!
7) Explore the Area! Relax and Enjoy the Day!
I know I said top 6 things to do, but I felt like I needed to include a general one too. Take some time to explore around and definitely do not forget to relax and enjoy the day! You are in a tropical paradise after all! (Just ignore the typhoon damage, what are the chances there would be another typhoon anytime soon?)
There is so much else to do at Typhoon Lagoon and this list just touched the surface of all the things you can discover here. You can experience as much or as little of the park as you want. They are plenty of rides for thrill-seekers but also lots of opportunities for relaxation if you are looking for a change of pace within your theme parks days. There is also so much area to walk around and wonderful areas to discover! The park is lush with plants and it was truly a very relaxing day. We had so much fun and I look forward to going back again soon!
